Davide Fantoni / Boys and Girls
|
My main interest as a photo artist lies in the dichotomy between the individual search for one’s identity and the constraints of social categorization, within a cyclic vision of time. Past, present and future overlap creating an obsessive need to look for the original starting point, epitome of unspoiled and unconditioned freedom. Alienation and social fragmentation is an echoing condition of such quest. “Boys and Girls” is part of the series “Canvas”, at once tribute to the art of classical painting and personal inquiry on the esthetic role of photography. The portrayed children are depicted in the ambivalence of their physical fragility –that stands as a precarious epitome of their past- and an emotional complexity that bears tomorrow’s disillusionment and a bittersweet, ironic maturity. What is yet to come has already gone.
